Judges of the British Press Awards described Richard Pelham, who has won this award for the fourth year in a row , as having an impressive ability to capture unique moments of sporting drama. Pelham’s image of world champion boxer, Joe Calzaghe was described by judges as a “cheeky, witty” image that “captured a moment in a sport which can often be the hardest to get”.

Richard Pelham comments: “I’m over the moon to have won the award against such stiff competition and feel it is a symbolic achievement considering it is almost a year to the day that I switched back to using Nikon – a decision I didn’t take lightly but have never looked back on.”
